The College of Computing is excited to share that Dr. Andrew Kalafut and Dr. Sara Sutton have been awarded a GenCyber grant to bring a cybersecurity summer camp to Grand Valley State University in 2027.

GenCyber is a national cybersecurity education program supported by the National Security Agency (NSA) and National Science Foundation (NSF). The program partners with colleges and universities to provide cybersecurity learning experiences for K–12 students and educators, with the larger goal of inspiring more young people to explore cybersecurity and helping develop the nation’s future cybersecurity workforce.

Being selected for GenCyber funding is an exciting recognition for GVSU and the College of Computing's growing work in cybersecurity. Institutions seeking to host GenCyber camps go through a federal proposal process, making this award an opportunity not only to expand cybersecurity education at GVSU, but also to connect our faculty and expertise with a nationally recognized initiative.

The 2027 camp will give high school students the opportunity to explore cybersecurity, develop hands-on skills, and learn about educational and career pathways in the field. It also gives the college an opportunity to reach future computing students early and introduce them to the people, programs, and possibilities available at GVSU.

Congratulations to Dr. Kalafut and Dr. Sutton on this achievement and their leadership in bringing GenCyber back to GVSU. Stay tuned for more about the 2027 camp as planning gets underway.
