Experiential Learning Funding Grant Application

Experiential Learning Funding Grants are supported by CCEE in collaboration with the CLAS Voyage. Faculty in CLAS and Brooks are eligible to apply.

• There are two types of grants, mini-grants and pilot grants.
• All applications require a project description, estimated budget, documentation of Unit Head Support for the application, and submission of a final report.
• Pilot grants also require a plan for sustaining the program beyond the pilot.
• Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and grants will be awarded until funds for that period have been depleted.

Mini-grants

• Awards of up to $750 are available to support:

1. On-campus events (e.g., welcome events or year-end celebrations)
2. Field trips

• A unit can receive a maximum of one of these grants per year
• Priority will be given to units and/or faculty who have not previously received one of these grants, number of students engaged in the program/event being supported, and connection to the CLAS Voyage.

Pilot Grants

• These are one-time grants of up to $5000 to support costs associated with ambitious experiential learning experience development/expansion.
• Applications must include a plan for sustaining the program after the pilot term.
• Funds cannot be used to provide faculty stipends.
• Multidisciplinary projects are highly encouraged.
• Priority will be given to units and/or faculty who have not previously received one of these grants, number of students engaged in the program/event being supported, and connection to the CLAS Voyage.

Learning Takes a Road Trip

In order to provide barrier-free learning opportunities outside of the classroom, the college is piloting a van pool during the 24-25 academic year. Available to CLAS faculty on a first-come, first-served basis and is a free service. Each van can transport up to fifteen of students and can be used for day trips as well as extended travel. To get started, faculty need to fill out the registered driver form and take the van orientation course.

CLAS Professional Development Fund

At a Glance

• Amount: One grant per eligible person per fiscal year--$500
• Purpose: This PDF is designed to help defray the costs of attending or participating in professional job-related conferences, seminars/webinars, meetings or other development opportunities. The use of funds does not require the presentation of papers at a conference or conference committee participation.
• Eligibility: All staff (AP and PSS), affiliate and visiting faculty. Tenured/tenure-track and adjunct faculty are not eligible.
• Application Timing: Applications will be accepted prior to traveling and awarded on a rolling basis each fiscal year until funds are depleted.
• Of Note:
  • Funding is limited to one award per fiscal year.
  • Recipients will be notified within one week of applying.
  • There is no retroactive funding

Academic and Professional Enrichment Fund

The Academic and Professional Enrichment Fund (APEF) provides travel funds to support undergraduate student travel to academic conferences and meetings coordinated by a faculty sponsor.

APEF is available to all undergraduate students who may be looking for one time funding to attend an academic conference that is related to their major, minor, and/or professional goals, or to engage in a professional experience. Students must be accompanied by a coordinating faculty member.

Attending a conference with a faculty member can be a valuable experience which can enrich a student's understanding of a discipline and subsequent professions. APEF is intended to assist students in attending such conferences.

Academic Conference Fund

The Academic Conference Fund (ACF) is available to all undergraduate students who may be looking for one time funding to present/perform at an academic conference that is related to their major, minor, and/or professional goals.

Faculty Conference Grant

GRANT AT A GLANCE

• Amount: One grant per faculty member per fiscal year--$700.
• Purpose: This grant provides funding to defray the cost of attending an in-person or virtual teaching-related conference, workshop or training, with or without presenting.
• Eligibility: All faculty (tenure track, tenured, affiliate, visiting, and adjunct). Staff not eligible. 
  • Preference is given to first time applicants.
  • Preference is given to applicants who have not used this grant to attend the same conference in the previous 3-5 years.
  • All applications must explicitly state how attendance at the conference will impact their teaching and hopefully, the learning of their students.
• Application Timing: For events held July through December, applications open April 15. For events held January through June, applications open October 15. Once the application window opens, the Pew FTLC will wait two weeks before reviewing all applications. The grant will be awarded until funds for that period of travel have been depleted.

Sponsored Teaching and Learning Event Grant

GRANT AT A GLANCE

• Amount: Varies.
• Purpose: This grant supports a limited number of teaching and learning related workshops, institutes and conferences.
• Eligibility: All faculty (tenure track, tenured, affiliate, visiting, and adjunct). Eligibility varies depending on the event. Each event description will list eligibility criteria separately.
• Application Timing: Applications will have varied deadlines throughout the year which will be announced via a Pew FTLC mailing or invitation.
   
• Of Note:
  • Funds may cover the partial or full cost, depending on the event. See specific event for details.
  • There is no retroactive funding

Learning Community Application

GRANT AT A GLANCE

• Amount: Funding will cover the cost of books, materials, other resources, and light refreshments at the meetings.
• Purpose: For faculty and staff interested in joining a Learning Community focused on a topic of significance to faculty.
• Eligibility: All faculty (tenure track, tenured, affiliate, visiting, and adjunct). (NOTE: GVSU staff may participate with supervisor approval.)
• Application Timing: Applications will be accepted up to a week into the semester in which the LC will begin or until groups are full.
