History of CCEL

The CLAS Center for Experiential Learning was established in response to input from faculty, staff, and students during strategic planning sessions in 2021. It serves as a resource hub supporting the university's commitment to experiential learning. Kris Pachla served as the Center's inaugural director. Key milestones include consulting with national experts Tia McNair and Jillian Kinzie in Fall 2022; hiring Faculty Fellows beginning in Fall 2022 to partner with academic units and faculty in integrating high-impact educational practices into courses; launching the Laker Accelerated Talent Link and hosting its inaugural employer feedback conference in Spring 2023; and receiving a Title III Strengthening Institutions grant in Fall 2023 to support faculty specialists focused on expanding high-impact educational practices and analyzing student success data. In 2024, the Center merged with the Regional Math and Science Center, broadening its scope to support STEM outreach and experiential learning initiatives while strengthening collaboration across K–12, higher education, and community partners.
