Your Career Fair Questions, Answered!
Common Career Fair Questions
- We recognize the benefit that color-coded nametags could add to your recruiting experience. Unfortunately, we are unable to implement it at this time.
- Due to GVSU offering more than 300 academic programs, implementing a comprehensive color-coding system has significant challenges.
- Our fairs are open to students of all majors, and we encourage employer representatives to engage with any candidates who approach their booth.
- Candidates are instructed to include their major(s) on their nametag.
- GVSU Career & Internship Fairs are hosted at the DeVos Place Convention Center in downtown Grand Rapids to best support the size and scope of the event.
- The fair has grown beyond the capacity of on-campus venues, and DeVos Place offers the necessary space, amenities, and resources to ensure a successful experience for both employers and candidates.
- Scheduling the Career & Internship Fairs in the late afternoon allows the greatest number of students to attend around academic commitments. Data shows that over 12% of fair attendees arrive after 3:30pm.
- This timeframe also provides employers with ample time to arrive on-site, set up their booths, and enjoy lunch prior to the start of the event, helping ensure a smooth and successful experience for all participants.
- The DeVos Place Parking Ramp is the closest and most convenient option.
- Exiting the ramp between 5:00–5:30 p.m. can be busy, so we recommend using the Lyon Street exit, as Michigan Street typically experiences heavier traffic at that time.
- Additional nearby parking options include the Government Center Ramp, located directly across the street.
- The Monroe Center and Ottawa/Fulton Ramps are a slightly longer walk but may offer a smoother departure with less congestion at the end of the event.
- Moe detailed information on parking, as well as a map, can be found here .
