Madelaine Cleghorn '16
In 2016, Madelaine Cleghorn graduated from Grand Valley State University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Spanish. During her time at GVSU, Maddie was involved with multiple student organizations on campus. She served as a member of the GVSU Student Senate, and the Phi Mu Fraternity. Her participation in student organizations provided her with lifelong friends and unique leadership and advocacy opportunities. Maddie is also grateful for the support of the Political Science Department Faculty, stating, “I was fortunate to have the best faculty I could ask for in the Political Science Department, who challenged me to become a better writer and critical thinker, and provided such patient and encouraging support as I deliberated my post-grad plans.”
Maddie graduated from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2019. While attending law school, she served as a student advocate in the Georgetown University Health Justice Alliance, a clinic representing families in Washington D.C. who faced challenges in special education, discrimination, homelessness, and access to healthcare. From there, Maddie began working as a Litigation Associate at Goodwin Proctor LLP in Boston, Massachusetts.
Maddie worked as an attorney for the Bruman Group PLLC in Washington DC, specializing in education law and advising school districts, state departments of education, and institutions of higher education across the country on compliance with federal education grants management laws and regulations, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the Higher Education Act, and other federal laws and regulations related to education. She is now Senior Associate Attorney with Feldesman Leifer in Washington DC.
