Spring has officially arrived at GVSU this April, and it’s a joy to watch the campus come alive again! It’s been a rewarding month in the Career Center as we wrapped up our semester events and projects. This time of year is always exciting as we cheer on our students and recent alumni heading into summer opportunities and the next steps in their careers. Read on to Engage, Connect, and Discover!

The GVSU Internship Awards event is always a highlight of our year! It’s a time to celebrate the incredible interns, supervisors, employers, and university partners who help create impactful internship experiences. Nearly 150 student interns and their supervisors attended the awards lunch, providing ample networking opportunities for students and employers alike.
And now a drumroll for this year’s winners…
Outstanding Undergraduate Intern of the Year: Alex Goodyear, Sport Management, Intern at the Grand Rapids Gold
Outstanding Graduate Intern of the Year: Albert Okwei, MPA, Intern at the Urban League of West Michigan
Outstanding Supervisor of the Year: Sara Trigg, Ottawa County Juvenile Court
Outstanding Internship Employer of the Year (For-Profit): EHTC
Outstanding Internship Employer of the Year (Non-Profit): Consumers Credit Union
Outstanding Internship Advocate of the Year: Rodd Lowell, College of Computing
The "Sensational 6", our team of Career Center interns, planned, coordinated and hosted the 2025 Internship Awards lunch. We are so proud of the impact these interns had on the work the Career Center accomplished this year.

Knowing this, the Career Center provides students with access to Candid Career: a free virtual library of occupational interviews. Successful professionals from various fields - the entertainment industry, medicine, business, law enforcement, and many more - answer in-depth questions about what they do, what they love (and what they might improve) about their job, how they prepared for the job search process, and their best tips and tricks for breaking into the business.
