March in the Career Center
March 31, 2025
It’s time for another edition of the Career Center Monthly! March 2025 was an invigorating month for our Lakers: with 41 events across campus, there were plenty of opportunities for them to spring into action and make career connections. Plus, with over 50 different employers interacting with our office just this month, it was exciting to see students from a variety of fields find their perfect fit at our networking events. Read on to Engage, Connect, and Discover more about our Lakers planted the seeds for success this March!
Engage
The GVSU Career Center hosted several events in March to help students explore career paths and connect with industry professionals, but three stood out as major highlights for our students!
How to Gain Healthcare Experience
For students looking to break into the healthcare field, gaining relevant experience before the application process is a crucial first step. At the How to Gain Healthcare Experience event, representatives shared opportunities for clinical and non-clinical experience, including volunteering, shadowing, and paid positions in healthcare settings so 114 students could explore various ways to build their résumés and strengthen their graduate school applications.
Alumni in STEM Panel
At this brand new event, students had the chance to connect with Grand Valley alumni who have successfully launched careers in the STEM field! Panelists shared their career journeys, provided insights into industry trends, and gave practical advice on securing internships and jobs so our Lakers could walk away with a clearer understanding of the diverse career paths available in STEM.
Careers in Communication & the Arts
Breaking into creative industries can feel extremely daunting for new professionals, but the Careers in Communication & the Arts event was a smash success! This networking event hosted media, marketing, public relations, and arts professionals in Kirkhof as they discussed industry trends, in-demand skills, and job search strategies with students. It was great to see Lakers learning about the importance of networking and gaining hands-on experience, and we’re excited to see how they turn their passion for the arts into a fulfilling career.
Connect
This month, we’d like to highlight one of the GVSU Career Center’s outstanding partners: Cherry Health, a leading nonprofit healthcare provider and national school of service! From participating in internships to securing full-time roles, we’ve seen our Lakers gain hands-on experience in patient care, administration, and nonprofit leadership through this continued collaboration.
Cherry Health has been an extremely active presence at Career Center events, including the Winter 2025 Career & Internship Fair and the 2025 Health Professional & Graduate School Fair, where students explored postgraduate opportunities in Michigan’s healthcare sector. We have loved to see such successful professional relationships being built at these events, and we’re excited to continue supporting nonprofits like Cherry Health in our shared ambition to expand career pathways for students interested in healthcare and public service. Keep an eye out for future opportunities to connect yourself and your students with Cherry Health!
