February in the Career Center

With another successful Career & Internship Fair under our belt, the GVSU Career Center is going into spring on a high note. This month, we held a total of 50 events with over 2,800 students attending. As employers met with students to share insights and advice, students continued getting closer and closer to making their career goals a reality. Read on to Engage, Connect, and Discover more about how we helped Lakers have a successful February!

Engage

In the midst of the national conversation about the difficulty of finding entry-level jobs, Grand Rapids is working hard to prove that notion wrong. On February 19th, 2026, the GVSU Career Center hosted its Winter Career & Internship Fair. This event is held once each semester for students to meet with employers and explore opportunities to gain professional experience.

This winter, 192 organizations from around the state participated, and over 1,300 students attended to explore entry-level positions and learn more about industries they’re interested in. In a time where finding a job feels more difficult for students than ever, this was an opportunity to network and learn about all of the opportunities out there.

Connect

As every student hears, networking with employers and building connections face-to-face is a massive advantage when entering the job search. However, the formality of career fairs can be intimidating, and the time it takes to travel there can be inconvenient. To help with this, GVSU offers the Employer of the Day program: a casual information table hosted by employers from top companies, right here on campus. Students can stop by on their way to class and meet with potential employers, explore career opportunities, get real advice, and more. To learn more and find which companies are coming on which days, check out Employer of the Day.

Discover

The GVSU Career Center recently started a new series on their YouTube channel as a way to showcase even more career advice, and the first episode has been posted! This episode covers ten helpful tips for writing an effective resume, including advice on content, format, and more. The series was created by the Career Center interns, and will feature Career Center staff members in each episode. Stay tuned for the next video on our YouTube channel!
