January in the Career Center
February 05, 2026
This January, the GVSU Career Center kicked off the Winter semester with seven tabling events, two information sessions, two presentations, and the JCPenney Suit Up event. We were joined by students across campus who were excited and ready to make the most of these new beginnings. Read on to Engage, Connect, and Discover more about how we helped Lakers have a great January!
Engage
On February 3rd, the GVSU Career Center held Careers in Lab
Sciences. For the 101 students who attended, this networking event was
a great opportunity to explore careers in Lab Sciences through hearing
overviews from participating employers, connecting one-on-one during
networking time, and learning about part-time and full-time hiring
opportunities. We also teamed up with faculty across campus, who
brought their classes to the event during their class time so that
their students could have the chance to participate.
Connect
The Career Center has a lot of resources, and a great way to get
to know those resources is through our presentations! We cover a range
of topics, including Career Center basics, tips for networking on
LinkedIn, and steps to writing a good resume. You can invite us to
talk to your class or department by submitting a presentation
request, or you can find pre-recorded presentations along with
other digital content in our Digital
Resource Library.
Discover
The Winter Career and Internship Fair is coming up on February
19th, which means it’s time for students to start preparing. We know
that it can feel intimidating to go into the career fair with no idea
of what to expect, so we’ve put together all of our career
fair-related Work Like a Laker podcast episodes to help. These
episodes range from tips on career fair etiquette to tips on following
up with employers after the fair. We recommend sharing these resources
with students so that they can go into the upcoming fair feeling ready
for anything!
