November 2025 in the Career Center
December 01, 2025
As the holiday season approaches and students wrap up the fall semester, the GVSU Career Center is hard at work making sure every student leaves for Winter Break feeling prepared and confident. This November, 30 events were held, bringing in over 220 students. It was beyond exciting to watch students continue to make connections with employers and establish their career goals, and we can't wait to see what the next semester brings. Read on to Engage, Connect, and Discover more about how we helped Lakers have a successful November!
Engage
On November 19th, the GVSU Career Center held the Etiquette
Dinner, which over 120 students attended. This free, three-course meal
was the perfect opportunity for students to explore the ins and outs
of dining, learning about Continental vs. American style dining, the
historical origins of dining etiquette, and more.
It was also a great chance to practice their interpersonal and networking skills, particularly in a dining setting. With how often networking is done over food, this event provided students with real-life experience in an area they’re sure to encounter later in their career journey.
Connect
GVSU’s Exploratory
Advising Center provides students who are choosing or changing
their major with the advisors and resources to explore options while
staying on track academically. Through this work, they often work with
the Career Center, especially when it comes to Career Communities.
“Many students arrive unsure of a specific major, but they typically have an idea of the type of career or industry they are interested in,” said Trenton Beamon, Director of the Exploratory Advising Center. “The Career Communities allow us to guide students through exploration at the industry level before they commit to a particular major.”
Because many of the conversations the Exploratory Advising Center has with students naturally lean into career exploration, having a close relationship with the Career Center has proven helpful. “By partnering closely with the Career Center, our office ensures that students receive consistent messaging about exploration, transferable skills, and pathways across disciplines,” Beamon said. “This alignment helps students feel more confident in their decisions and supported across campus offices.”

A recent episode of the Work like a Laker podcast is an
extra-special episode, because it has some extra-special hosts. It’s
this semester’s Intern Takeover episode, hosted by the GVSU Career
Center interns for the 2025-26 year: Shea Hannigan, Sofia Pratt, Denys
Zamaraiev, Brody Zondervan, and Callie Zwart!
In Intern Takeover: Professionalism in the Workplace, the interns share everything they know about professionalism in the workplace— as learned through their firsthand experience as students working in a professional environment. From dressing appropriately for an interview to building good relationships with colleagues, this episode will shed some light on the unknowns that students might be intimidated by. Encourage your students to listen on Apple Music, Spotify, or anywhere else they find their podcasts.
