October in the Career Center
November 03, 2025
Fall is in full swing, and so is the GVSU Career Center! October was a busy month, with 61 events held and over 290 employers participating. We also had over 2,560 students join us to meet with employers, gain insight into their desired industries, and prepare for their future careers. Read on to Engage, Connect, and Discover more about how we helped Lakers make the most of this October!
Engage
On October 14th, 2025, the GVSU Career Center held its Career & Internship Fair. This event is held twice each year to connect students with employers who are knowledgeable about their industry and looking to hire.
This Fall semester, over 1,900 students attended to learn about different careers and their hiring opportunities. With 225 organizations participating, there were plenty of different career fields for students to explore. As valuable industry insights were shared and future interviews were scheduled, it was a day filled with new opportunities for both students and employers.
Connect
The GVSU Career Center hosted its annual Graduate School Fair on October 23rd, 2025, with 32 schools participating to support the 50+ students that attended. For the very first time, this event was hosted in partnership with the Center for Undergraduate Scholar Engagement, which houses the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship and the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships.
This partnership provided students at the fair with even more resources to gain experience outside of the classroom during or after finishing their undergraduate programs. With opportunities ranging from fellowships that fund study abroad programs to competitive internships in a variety of fields, students get the chance to learn more about their interests while preparing themselves for future graduate programs.
Discover
Students have a lot of questions when it comes to entering the workforce. What will make them stand out in a competitive job market? What do employers want to see on resumes? What are they supposed to do in the interview? To provide them with the inside scoop on what employers are looking for, as told from the employers themselves, check out the Work Like a Laker podcast episode, “Employers Tell All: What Makes a Good Candidate.” Encourage your students to listen on Apple Music, Spotify, or anywhere else they get their podcasts.
