Communication is the heart of connection, learning, and belonging. For autistic students and others who cannot rely on speech alone, having access to meaningful, personalized communication supports is essential, not optional.

Our goal is to connect school staff and families to a range of evidence-based tools, strategies, and organizations that empower all students to express themselves, be heard, and actively participate in their learning and school community. Whether a student uses spoken words, gestures, signs, communication devices, or a combination of these, our goal is to ensure every student is heard, respected, and supported.

Here, you’ll find resources to guide implementation and everyday classroom practices that prioritize communication access, promote inclusion, and support each learner’s unique strengths and needs.

“The silence of speechlessness is never golden. We all need to communicate and connect with each other, not in just one way, but in as many ways as possible. It is a basic human need, a basic human right. And more than this, it is a basic human power.”
- Bob Williams, Self-Advocate and Co-founder of CommunicationFIRST
