Students may complete the undergraduate application by submitting an online application below, or by printing, completing, and mailing our paper application. A non-degree paper application is also available.
GVSU is launching a new application system for undergraduate applications. Please review the two options carefully to ensure you're accessing the appropriate application site:
Apply for Spring/Summer 2022:
Spring/Summer 2022 Semester is May - August, 2022.
Apply for Fall 2022 or later:
Fall 2022 Semester is August - December, 2022.
Winter 2023 Semester is January - April, 2023.
For Fall 2022 Freshman Applicants:
Grand Valley State University will allow freshman students to apply for the fall of 2022 without test scores. We will continue to maintain our high academic standards, though the decision to submit test scores will be left entirely up to the applicant. All applicants admitted to GVSU by March 1 will be considered for merit-based scholarships, regardless of whether or not test scores are submitted with the application.
You may still submit test scores as a supplement to your application, even at a later date, for additional scholarship consideration.
The Admissions Office at Grand Valley takes a holistic approach to reviewing applications, meaning several factors of an application are evaluated to determine academic fit for GVSU. These factors include grade point average (GPA), academic rigor, short answer response on the admissions application, and standardized test scores when presented.
Admissions decisions are based on:
- Secondary school record (grades earned, as well as courses selected)
- Personal data submitted on the application
- Scores on any required standardized tests
- Transcripts from any previously attended institutions
For freshman entering Fall 2022, completed application for admissions, including all supporting documents, must be submitted by March 1 for merit scholarship consideration. Final scholarship decisions are made by July 31.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available on the Grand Valley State University Police Department website. If you would like to receive a printed copy of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, you can stop by the Facilities Service Building or you can request a copy be mailed to you by calling (616)-331-3255. The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, fire safety, university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, and other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus. The report also contains information about crime data for three previous calendar years. Statistics include reported crimes that occurred on the campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by GVSU and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by law and is provided by the Grand Valley State University Police Department.
