Physics is the study of matter, energy, and the forces that shape the universe.

Overview

At Grand Valley, physics students gain the experimental and analytical skills needed for today’s evolving job market. Working closely with faculty, students apply theoretical knowledge to engaging, student-driven research projects in diverse areas like acoustics, astronomy, atomic physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, and medical physics

In addition to courses on core physics theories, like mechanics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetic fields, the program includes courses in chemistry, computer science, and mathematics, plus elective courses in other scientific fields.  

You will benefit from dedicated study and collaboration spaces, active engagement in the Society of Physics Students, and a comprehensive liberal education with tailored courses and programs. Faculty are known for their enthusiasm and dedication to excellent personal teaching. You will gain hands-on learning through academic research and attend outreach events like Michigan's Science Olympiad and the Roger That! conference, offering immersive learning experiences beyond the classroom.
