Information Technology (IT) uses computers, networks, software, and systems to manage and process information.

Overview

IT specialists are experts in data storage, cybersecurity, software development, network management, and system administration. Grand Valley provides students with extensive hands-on learning opportunities, helping IT students graduate with the confidence and experience necessary for success within information technology infrastructure and the people who use it.

The IT program offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes courses in programming, problem-solving with software tools, and computer systems administration. You will delve into information assurance and system security, cyber digital forensics, usability design, and the emerging fields of pervasive computing and the Internet of Things. Diverse elective classes offered within the IT curriculum allow students to create specialties within their field like data visualization and mobile applications.

IT stands out for its unique blend of theoretical foundation, practical experience, and underlying cybersecurity principles to prepare you to tackle current and future challenges. Highly educated faculty with extensive industry experience, combined with access to state-of-the-art computer labs, provide relevant, hands-on learning opportunities and prepare you for leadership in the field.

Admission Information

Admission to major standing is competitive and requires a secondary application. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Overall GPA of 2.5 or above in all Grand Valley State University coursework
  • Completion of each course in the technical core with a grade of C or above (C- is not sufficient)
  • GPA of 2.5 or above in the technical core
