Bachelor of Science (B.S.)

Undergraduate Major

Allendale • Face to face (?) • 120 Credits

Cell and molecular biology is the study of cells and their molecular components, focusing on their structure, function, and interactions within living organisms.

Overview

Extensive research experiences, including an independent research project, allow students to explore relevant and intriguing cell and molecular processes. Coursework and research prepare students to enter fields like biotechnology, pharmacology, and genomics and to pursue graduate training in the life sciences or professional school programs.

You will study a range of disciplines, including biology and genetics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, mathematics, and physics. Cross-discipline electives like immunology, neuroscience, drug design, and optics allow you to explore topics that cater to your personal interests and career goals.

Studying cell and molecular biology at Grand Valley offers a top-tier education, with the program consistently ranked in the top 10 percent of life science programs nationwide. Faculty members are deeply involved in research using Grand Valley's state-of-the-art equipment located at the heart of a growing biotechnology hub. You will gain extensive research experience and present your findings at scientific meetings—an experience highly valued by employers and medical schools. You will also have access to rewarding internships at prestigious institutions like the Van Andel Research Institute and Karmanos Cancer Institute and local hospitals and biotech start-ups.
