Debevec-McKenney Wins Prestigious Dylan Thomas Prize
Sasha Debevec-McKenney, GVSU Assistant Professor of Writing, was awarded the 2026 Swansea University Dylan Thomas Prize for her poetry collection, Joy is My Middle Name (Norton, 2026). The Dylan Thomas Prize is the most prestigious and largest prize awarded to young writers, and honors the late Welsh writer, Dylan Thomas.
The judges unanimously agreed that Debevec-McKenney's collection was "“Incredible. An exuberant, blistering collection full of life, humour and ideas. Debevec-McKenney is a ferociously gifted talent. The book is remarkable in the way it galvanizes the reader with a sense of intimacy that is authentic and a voice that feels like an antidote to our tricky times.”
