Beth Peterson is a nonfiction writer and assistant professor of writing at GVSU. Beth has an MA from Wheaton College, an MFA from the University of Wyoming and a PhD in Creative Writing & Literature from the University of Missouri. A wilderness guide before she began writing, Beth is finishing her first book of lyric essays, set in a disappearing glacial landscape in Norway. A recipient of an American-Scandinavian Fellowship, Beth has recent or forthcoming work in Fourth Genre, River TeethPassages North, Post Road, The Pinch, Assay, Ocean State Review and other journals.  Her research interests include eco-criticism, environmental writing, the lyric essay and Victorian genre fiction. 

Beth teaches Introduction to Creative Writing, Intermediate and Advanced Nonfiction, Working with Manuscripts, Advanced Style & Technique & Capstone.  She’s also the faculty advisor for the Writing Department’s Student Reading Series.  You can find more of her work at
