Accessing the Class List

The new Class List functionality replaces both the Detail Class List and Summary Class List on the Faculty Services tab in myBanner.  Only faculty assigned to teach a course are able to access class lists using this functionality.  All others should use the GVSU Faculty/Staff Additional Student Information, which is available under the Faculty and Staff Links section on the Banner Resources page.

When you select the link for Banner 9 - Class List - Uses myName, it may open in a new browser tab. 

The list of courses to which you are assigned for all terms will be displayed.  You can filter the list to look only at a specific term by clicking on “All Terms” in the upper left.

There is a search box to the right where you can search for a course by subject/course number, course title, CRN or term. The icon to the left of the search box allows you to select which columns you would like to display in the listing of courses.  You can sort the list of courses by clicking on the column headers (e.g. Subject, Course Title, CRN, etc.). 

To view the class list for a course, click anywhere in the row for the course, other than the blue hyperlinks for the Course Title and CRN.  Selecting the Course Title or CRN blue hyperlinks will open a window with course details (course description, restrictions, pre-requisites, textbook information, linked sections, etc.). 

The list of enrolled students will display in alphabetical order by last name. There is a search box where you can search for a student by name, ID/G-number, level, or class. The icon to the left of the search box allows you to select which columns you would like to display in the class list. You can sort the list by clicking on the column headers (e.g. Student Name, ID, etc.). 

Please note that this class list uses myName for any students who have provided one.

Viewing Student Profile from Class List

You can click on the blue hyperlink of any student’s name to access the Student Profile for each individual student.  The Student Profile will open in a new browser tab. The Student Profile is used to view detailed information about a specific student and includes the following:  contact information, class level, advisor name, major, minor, concentrations, registered courses, class schedule, registration notices and holds, prior education and testing, hours earned, GPA, academic standing and grades.

If the student’s record is flagged as confidential, there will be an orange banner and padlock icon on the left side above the student’s name.

Some of the links on the Student Profile page will open a new browser tab and display in the Banner 8 user interface since the updated interface is not yet available.  These include Academic Transcript, Student Schedule, View Application to Graduate and Schedule – Week at a Glance.

Please note that the Student Profile uses myName for any students who have opted to share one.

Using Class List to Send Email

You can email selected students or all students from the class list.  To email selected students, click the box to the left of the student’s name.  This will place a green checkmark in the box. Then click the envelope icon to the right above the Final column header.  This will launch your default email program and place the selected email addresses in the BCC field.

To email all students, click the box to the left of the Student Name column header.  This will place a checkmark next to every student’s name.  Then follow the same steps as noted above for email selected students.

Reminder: When emailing multiple students simultaneously, it is imperative that the email addresses be entered as blind copy (BCC) to prevent disclosure to other members of the list.

Exporting or Printing Class List

At the top of the class list in the upper right corner, you will see icons to export the list to Excel or to print the list.

In order to print, make sure your browser is allowing pop-ups.  After allowing pop-ups you may need to sign out of class list window by clicking the person icon in the upper right corner to the left of where your name is displayed.  Then return to the browser tab where you can access Faculty Services and select Class List again. You may need to enter your network user ID and password again to log back in to the class list.

Important Notice: The class list contains confidential information and must be stored securely, never posted publicly, and destroyed once used for its original intended purpose.  The information is protected by the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and cannot be released to any other individual or organization.  For more information about faculty and staff responsibilities under FERPA please visit our web page.

Signing Out

When you have finished your session, please be sure to sign out of Banner Self-Service. To sign out, click the person icon in the upper right corner to the left of where your name is displayed and then click “sign out”.
