GVSU offers for-credit and non-credit certificates to advance your career with in-demand skills-based adult programming.
Military Micro-Courses
GVSU's micro-credentials program helps veterans in select occupations (see below) turn prior learning into academic credit, reducing time and cost toward your degree. With free online micro-courses designed to fill knowledge gaps and maximize your experience, you can move closer to your career goals and work towards a bachelor's degree.
Courses are free during the pilot program (until August) for the select occupations.
This initiative is designed for veterans and service members in the following occupations who want to turn their prior learning into academic credit and move toward a degree. If you don't see your occupation listed, connect with our support specialist. Current eligible occupations include:
- Army 68G, Patient Administration Specialists
- Air Force 4A031, Health Services Management Apprentices

Computing Micro-Courses
GVSU's micro-credentials program helps professionals with applicable IT credentials (see below) turn prior learning into academic credit, reducing time and cost toward your degree. With free online micro-courses designed to fill knowledge gaps and maximize your experience, you can move closer to your career goals and work towards a bachelor's degree.
Courses are free during the pilot program (until August) for industry certificate holders.
Applicable industry credentials include:
- COMPTIA Network Plus
- Certified CISCO Network Associate (CCNA)
- Certified CISCO Network Professional (CCNP)
MCC to GVSU Pathways

For many registered nurses (RNs) with associate degrees, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) affords additional career opportunities, advancements, and a broader scope of practice.
The Kirkhof College of Nursing's fully online RN to BSN program offers both synchronous and asynchronous coursework, with small class sizes ensuring meaningful engagement with professors and fellow students. Faculty and academic advisors guide students through every step of the program to ensure their individual needs are being met.
The RN to BSN program is tailored for working professionals and emphasizes small class sizes to foster meaningful engagement with faculty and peers. This program is ideal for:
- Students currently enrolled in associate degree nursing programs
- Recent graduates with an associate degree in nursing
- Practicing RNs at any stage of their career
- RNs with an active, unencumbered license who are not currently employed
Muskegon Community College is one of our concurrent enrollment partners; our concurrent enrollment programs can shorten the time it takes to earn your B.S.N. while enabling you to begin your career as an R.N.
The College of Computing at Grand Valley State University is committed to partnering with community colleges to ensure smooth transfer pathways, articulation agreements provide clear course transfers from an associate’s degree program into bachelor programs in Computing.
Muskegon Community College has three articulation agreements signed with GVSU College of Computing.
- A.S.A. to B.S. Computer Science
- A.S.A. to B.S. Cybersecurity
- A.S.A. to B.S. Information Technology
Each B.S. accepts 75 or more transfer credits from Muskegon Community College. The remainder of credits will need to be taken at GVSU.
Adult - Focused, Flexible Bachelor's Degrees
Adult-focused bachelor's degrees that are offered online, face-to-face, or hybrid.
The Integrative Studies program is a customizable degree that offers flexible degree pathways to fit all learners. This program is offered fully online, giving students the flexibility to make their own schedule and work on their degree when it is most convenient. Plus, with multiple start dates throughout the year, this bachelor's degree can be applied to any industry.
- Accelerated courses are offered in six-week sessions
- Online classes enable you to access program content and contribute to class discussions each week when it fits your schedule
- You do not need to be online on a specific day, and just like a traditional course, you can expect to have a syllabus with a course calendar for due dates
- You can expect about 15 hours of work a week per accelerated course and advisors will help you figure out how classes can fit into your life
In addition to the bachelor's degree in integrative studies, you will earn a certificate in, Business Fundamentals; Project Management; Applied Data Analytics; Leadership; Intercultural Communications
Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) is a unique bachelor's degree completion program that gives applied associates degree holders the opportunity to step up their education and careers. Grand Valley's B.A.S. is available in these in-demand areas:
- Leadership and Business Fundamentals (Online)
- Professional Innovation (Online)
- Computing (Online)
Grand Valley will give you up to 80 credits for your applied associates and previous work experience. The final 40 credits must be at GVSU.
Online Graduate Programs
GVSU has multiple graduate degree programs available for online learners. Programs include Data Science and Analytics, Education, Public Health, and more.
Technology is changing at an unprecedented rate, which is why the world of computing needs forward-thinking professionals who are not only ready to roll with these advancements, but push them even further. Grand Valley State University has 7 in-demand computing options. There is an increasing demand for professionals with computing expertise across industries. Emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software engineering, and human-centered computing are experiencing rapid growth. Our programs are accessible to all bachelor's degree types, not just computing.

Credit for Prior Learning
GVSU recognizes that your learning extends beyond the classroom. Whether that's work experience, military service, professional learning, technical training or knowledge you've learned through volunteer and service work, we value your diverse perspectives and want to help you earn credit for what you know. Prior learning provides you with options to earn undergraduate and graduate credit for what you know to help you complete your degree.
Prior Learning can look like transfer credit, credit by exam, and experiential credit awarded for non-college professional learning such as certificate or licensure acquired in business, industry, government, or the military,

The Grand Valley Pledge
When it comes to access to a first-class college education, a student's family income should not be a barrier. That's why GVSU has vowed to help make a Grand Valley education accessible to more students than ever with the Grand Valley Pledge.
The pledge is simple: eligible students will have their entire undergraduate tuition and fees covered.
If a student meets the eligibility criteria, they will have federal, state, and institutional gift aid that covers the cost of tuition with no separate application.
