Temporary Hourly Employees
Important Notices
If you would like to hire a recent GVSU retiree, you must wait a minimum of 2 pay cycles before they may be rehired into a temporary position.
In order to complete the forms below, you will need to have the position number, specifically for temporary hourly positions, the FOAP, and a G number (if applicable). If you are unsure of the position number, please contact the Business and Finance office.
Temporary Hourly employees cannot work more than 29 hours per week. If they have more than one appointment, their combined hours cannot exceed 29 hours per week. Exceptions must be approved by Human Resources–please contact your HR Business Partner.
Students who are enrolled in 6+ credits cannot be hired as a temporary hourly employee. That classifies them as a student employee, and they should be hired through Student Employment.
Processing Times
Please expect longer processing times proceeding the beginning of the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer semesters.
Vaccination Policy
All GVSU employees, including temporary hourly, are required by the Interim Vaccination Policy to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Temporary Hourly Employment Forms (Required)

- Temporary Application Form
- Form I9
- Payroll Forms (tax; direct deposit or pay card): Please submit directly to the Payroll office
*Hiring paperwork must be submitted to Human Resources prior to the first day of employment
- Temporary Employment Authorization/Extension Form (Login using your network ID and password)
- Temporary Application Form (If there are changes)
- Form I9 (If it has been longer than 3 years since last employment)
- Payroll Forms (If there are changes): Please submit directly to the Payroll office

**When a returning employee
transitions to a temporary hourly employee, we are unable to update
their new appointment in UltraTime until the current pay period has
ended from their previous appointment (if applicable).

*All temporary employees will receive a GVSU network account and email address. If the forms are not submitted to Human Resources prior to the first day of employment, the temporary employee will not have network access.
