Scott was looking forward to a bright future when things suddenly changed. Growing up in Troy, Michigan, he knew he always wanted to attend Grand Valley for the top-notch MBA program. It was a perfect fit for him while he worked as an engineer and took classes in a hybrid format, half in-person and half online.

Then COVID-19 hit. Like so many other students all across campus, Scott found himself in an unexpected situation and he didn’t know where to turn for help.

“I knew Lakers all across campus were finding themselves in situations with lost jobs and internships, loss of housing, and in a panic as we were all unsure where to turn for help. Things all happened so fast in just a few short weeks. I was a few months shy of graduating and didn’t know how I was going to pay for the remainder of my classes,” said Scott.

Scott heard about the Student Support Fund and decided to apply.

“For the first time in my life I can honestly say - I was in real trouble. I didn’t know where to turn. I just needed a little bit to get me through to graduation – I’d never been in a situation like this. It was then that I learned about the Student Support Fund,” he said.

When he received the email saying that he qualified for help, he couldn’t believe it.

“After a stressful few weeks of what I can only describe as chaos occurring all around me, this was the little bit of light that I needed. The money from this fund went directly to pay the remaining bit of my tuition bill and I am happy to report that I was able to graduate this past spring,” said Scott.

Scott says he wouldn’t be where he is today without the help of the donors who gave to this fund.

“I know for a fact that without this help, I wouldn’t have been able to graduate. This was a situation that was out of my control. I hope that the donors who gave to this fund are reading this right now and know that I am so grateful. I don’t know how to say thank you enough for the impact you made in my life,” said Scott.
