Erin Searcy, Class of 2024

What is your major and when do you expect to graduate?
I am currently majoring in mechanical engineering and expect to graduate December 2024.

How did you find out about the opportunity to study at GVSU?
I was made aware of the program through the cooperative developmental energy program at Fort Valley State University.

What was your first reaction to the idea of coming here and why did you, ultimately, decide to come?
My first reaction was "it gets very cold!" I ultimately decided to come after touring the school in November 2020 when I saw the great facilities on the Robert C. Pew campus and the opportunities to work as an engineer.

What has your experience been like at Grand Valley so far? What is the highlight?
My experience has been great! So far, a highlights has been achieving a 3.67 undergraduate GPA and a 3.7 graduate GPA my first semester. It was great to see my hard work pay off!

What do you hope to do after graduation?
Post-graduation, I plan to continue my education by pursuing a doctoral degree and joining the work force as an engineer.

Is there anything else you think donors should know about how this experience has helped you move toward your goals?
This has been a wonderful opportunity to continue my education and expose myself to a new environment as well as to companies and experiences only available in West Michigan!
