Grand Valley State University is meeting the future head-on, with agility, vision, and a deep sense of purpose. Even as the world changes rapidly, our mission remains clear: to equip learners with the skills, experiences, and values they need to lead with confidence. From launching new degree programs that align with today’s workforce to advocating for smarter investments in higher education, GVSU is leading by example. This commitment to impact is powered by strong partnerships, responsive innovation, and an enduring belief in the transformative power of education.
Student Impact
Finding Their Voice Abroad
Caroline Hamilton ’25 found a passion for film and video while a student at Grand Valley because of the connections they could make with other people through telling stories onscreen. Thanks to the scholarships funded by Grand Valley community members, Hamilton had the opportunity to study abroad in Germany. Not only did their experience abroad boost Hamilton’s confidence and expand their worldview, but it also grew the connections they could make with people through art.
Charting Her Own Course
Rebecca Lubbers ’25 found all the tools she needed to succeed at Grand Valley. From faculty who helped her connect classroom concepts to real-world experience, to the hands-on learning opportunities that helped her build the skills and confidence to lead. As a geography and sustainable planning major, she explored how data, technology, and thoughtful design can empower communities to plan ahead, and she is confident that she is entering the workforce with all of the digital skills she needs to make lasting change in the communities around her.

A Passport to Possibility
When Professor Kevin Neitzert speaks about Grand Valley’s study abroad programs, his enthusiasm is contagious. “I’ve never seen a student study abroad and come back unchanged,” said Neitzert. “They come back more confident, more curious. They come back different people.” Thanks to a unique partnership with the Edelweiss Club of Grand Rapids, even more students will now have the opportunity to experience that transformation. The club recently committed to providing $10,000 each year for the next decade to support students participating in Grand Valley’s summer German study abroad program.
Invested in the Future
Through the Laker Accelerated Talent Link program, Consumers Credit Union has had the opportunity to expand on its already strong relationship with Grand Valley State University. With the introduction of the TellerPlus+ Hub on campus, liberal arts students like Allie Hawkes ’25 have the opportunity to gain flexible real-world tech experience between going to class and doing homework. Strengthening connections between Grand Valley and West Michigan businesses ensures that skilled young professionals like Hawkes stay local after graduation.
