Our GVSU family often talks about our “secret sauce.”  You are a crucial part of that mix, and I’m excited for you to read this issue of Horizons to see some of the ways your giving is making a difference.

Philanthropic support has been instrumental in deepening partnerships throughout our community. These partnerships not only amplify students' access to GVSU – they address critical needs in our region and expand our culture of innovation and applied research.

When we collaborate with employers, we feel we are building on a legacy of community involvement that started at GVSU’s inception more than 60 years ago. Back then, local business leaders raised funds to create a regional university. Today, these partnerships strengthen our capacity to address our most significant regional and national talent shortages, challenges, and opportunities.

One of these initiatives that you will read more about in Horizons is the Laker Accelerated Talent Link, which was co-created by local business leaders to prepare graduates with in-demand competencies for emerging fields. The program helps tie these students to our region, so they are inspired to stay and help create ongoing solutions. Another initiative is our new College of Computing, which will help graduates know how to navigate the reality of digital and AI’s impact in virtually every field. This work will produce GVSU graduates with the tools to live productive, meaningful lives.

Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission to prepare learners in their pursuits, professions, and purpose. I’m grateful you’re helping shape our collective future!
