Biography
Clay Craig is an affiliate faculty member in the College of Computing. His academic and professional interests span process and workflow improvement, user interface design, data analysis, and technology training. Professor Craig is particularly passionate about applying technology to enhance healthcare, education, media, and communication. He also holds a personal interest in space technology.
With extensive experience in both academic and industry settings, Professor Craig is a certified Toyota LEAN trainer and has applied LEAN principles in healthcare IT environments. He has also led professional training under the “Stand Up and Be Effective” program and holds multiple Microsoft certifications, including Office 365 and Windows 10. For the past two years, Craig has created and judged competitions for the Midwest Collegiate Computing Conference
He has previously been affiliated with ACHE (Association for Continuing and Higher Education), ICDE (International Council for Distance Education, MiCTA (Michigan Collegiate Telecommunications Association), CMMA (Communications Media Management Association), WGU (Western Governors University) and MVU (Michigan Virtual University). He also played a foundational role in the development of “Edustaff” and contributed to the development of the Michigan Child Support Enforcement System.
In the classroom, Professor Craig teaches courses in data analysis, introductory computing, cloud computing, file and account management, and leadership and presentation skills. A committed mentor, he guides students through real-world projects in collaboration with industry partners and mentors in the GVSU-BCPS Pipeline Scholar or Bearcat Advantage Mentorship Program as part of the “W.K. Kellogg Foundation/Battle Creek Public Schools/GVSU Partnership Grant.
Outside of his academic pursuits, Professor Craig is an engaged community member and family man. He enjoys astronomy, camping, fishing, gaming, and traveling to off-the-grid destinations. An active volunteer, he serves as a lighthouse keeper with the Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association and coaches youth in soccer, swimming, and bicycling.
