Teaching and Learning Department
The Teaching and Learning Department provides course and field work for all undergraduate programs and several graduate Education programs at Grand Valley State University. We provide professional expertise to our students and assure programs meet accreditation requirements. The department works closely with content-area departments throughout GVSU to ensure that students receive both the content knowledge and classroom management skills needed to be successful educators.
Faculty members in the Teaching and Learning Department believe first and foremost that all students (regardless of their circumstance) deserve well-prepared educators who are committed to their work. Thus, all professional educators first and foremost serve the students, families, communities, and states in which they work.
Our service in teaching is informed by professional standards, which educators set and to which we hold ourselves and our peers accountable. We also believe that professional educators are governed by an ethical code. This code acknowledges the learner as central to the work of teaching and schooling. Our code also acknowledges and embraces difference, and insists that educational decisions are made with the best interest of the learner in mind. Finally, we believe in the importance of our theoretical and scientific knowledge base as a source for education decisions.
