Established in the fall of 2021 within the College of Health Professions, the School of Interdisciplinary Health (SIH) combines three previous departments into one unit: Allied Health Sciences, Diagnostic and Treatment Sciences, and Public Health. The School currently houses four masters programs and nine undergraduate programs, which are located on the Health Campus in the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences and in Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders began in 2010 with Ms. Jean Silbar, a speech-language pathologist and business owner from the Grand Rapids community, and Dr. Beth Macauley, in the Department of Allied Health Sciences. A Master of Science in speech-language pathology was awarded candidacy accreditation from the Council of Accreditation of Academic Programs in 2013, and admitted its first class that semester. In 2018, the emphasis in speech-language pathology became a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders and the MS earned full accreditation status. The doctor of audiology (AuD) program earned candidacy accreditation in fall 2020, and admitted its first class of students that year. The first class of AuD students graduated in Spring 2023. We are proud of all that our graduates have accomplished as they deliver the highest-quality speech, language, hearing, balance, and swallowing services to their communities.

The Department of Occupational Science and Therapy is know for its state-of-the-art simulation facilities, hands-on learning labs, and curriculum that emphasizes community-based service learning. Their programs are designed to be both flexible and supportive, providing students with one-on-one faculty advising and mentoring throughout their academic journey.

Within the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, students have the opportunity to pursue a Master of Athletic Training or a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree through completion of professional, graduate-level coursework in state-of-the-art facilities located on the Medical Mile in Grand Rapids, MI. Faculty, staff, and students work collaboratively to create an educational environment that prioritizes equity, inclusion, access, and a sense of belonging for all.

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies delivers graduate medical education through the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, preparing highly competent, compassionate physician assistants for clinical practice. The department oversees curriculum design, faculty development, and clinical partnerships to ensure a rigorous, patient-centered educational experience.
