PRESCHOOL 3

CURRICULUM
Welcome to the Preschool 3 classroom that serves our oldest Lakers who are 4 to 5-year-olds! We use the Creative Curriculum which enables the children to become independent in their learning environment and have options in what they are learning. We do not focus on a particular theme in the classroom, rather we do studies. A new study begins with children expressing their interests while using their imagination to influence our weekly focuses and learning objectives. We encourage the study choices to be related to children's interactions within their daily lives. Once the topic is chosen, we brainstorm ideas of what we would like to learn and avenues for learning. Our studies range from a week to a month, depending on the interest and engagement of children on the topic.
- GOAL - Ensure all the children are prepared for kindergarten while maintaining structure and routine
- ENGAGEMENT - During our morning meeting, children start by practicing yoga or deep breathing exercises. Meditative practices help our Little Lakers to calm their bodies and focus during morning meeting time.
- INDEPENDENCE - Free choice is time for both playing and learning. During free time, children choose educational centers for playtime and teachers monitor and promote critical thinking skills. Children play and engage in conversation with each other which helps them learn social rules such as taking turns, managing emotions and creating friendships.
