OAR Self-Advocates Navigating high school, college, and the job market can be a challenging time that raises many often difficult questions. This can be both exciting and challenging for anyone, including teens and adults with autism. To help meet the needs of people on the autism spectrum, OAR offers resources for each of these stages. OAR Webinar- Teaching Self-Determination-Tips for Including Students in their Education and Transition Planning (includes a transition specialist and several individuals with autism discussing self-determination) Sex Ed for Self-Advocates: 9 self-paced modules for self-advocates in the following topic areas: Public vs. Private, Puberty, Healthy Relationships, Consent, Dating 101, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, Am I Ready?, Sexual Activity, Online Relationships and Safety. The student can complete independently, with a peer mentor, or with a family member. Educators may find the content helpful in areas to teach and break down information. Families may also find the information valuable for sharing with their young adult with autism. Additional Resources.
