1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
Just a few weeks before graduating, I accepted a position as a
Sales and Support Specialist at International Sports Timing (IST), a
family-owned company that has been supporting the aquatics community
since 1992. IST provides high-quality hardware and software designed
by swimmers, coaches, and engineers who know exactly what it takes to
run efficient and accurate meets. Our products serve swim, dive, and
water polo programs nationwide, helping elevate the experience for
athletes, coaches, spectators, and staff alike. Shortly after joining
the team, I transitioned into a focused role in Sales and Marketing. I
now oversee direct sales operations for our swim timing systems and
scoreboards—managing customer relationships from the initial inquiry
through post-sale support. I also lead all marketing initiatives and
manage IST’s social media presence, working to strengthen our brand
visibility and build engagement within the aquatic's community.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
One of my favorite memories at GVSU was working with Kate
VanDerKolk. From the moment I was admitted, she became an invaluable
resource and guiding presence throughout my journey. Whether helping
me navigate the accelerated bachelor's program or talking me down from
moments of overwhelm, Kate always showed up with patience,
encouragement, and direction.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
“It might not be your fault, but it is your responsibility.” This
reminder has guided me both personally and professionally. It’s a call
to rise above circumstances, take ownership, and continue improving
even when things feel out of your control. It’s about choosing faith,
integrity, and accountability in every area of life.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Rewarding, timely, consistent.
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I hope to reflect and share the goodness of God through my daily
actions and influence. With faith, all things are possible. Even
starting a bachelor’s degree in your third trimester of pregnancy and
finishing before your daughter turns two. I want to be living proof
that the "impossible" can be made possible, especially when
education is accessible and aligned with your season of life. GVSU’s
flexible, supportive structure gave me that opportunity and I hope to
empower others to believe in their own path forward, no matter how
unconventional it may be.
