The Cardiovascular Sonography (CVS) program is a 20-month cohort program beginning in the fall each year. Students are offered a position in one of the sonography majors: cardiovascular sonography (adult echocardiography, pediatric echocardiography, and vascular sonography) or diagnostic medical sonography-general (abdominal and obstetrics/gynecology). Admittance is selectively granted to students who have completed two years of required general education and prerequisite courses.
The program prepares students for professional success through a combination of lecture, lab, and clinical courses. Key subjects include anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, sonographic specialties, ultrasound physics and instrumentation, research, patient care, and professionalism.
Grand Valley stands out as the only baccalaureate-level CVS program in Michigan. You will learn from knowledgeable faculty who are active in clinical practice, preparing you for leadership roles in the field. Enjoy small class sizes, cohort-based learning, and diverse clinical education at various physicians' offices and hospitals, helping you build broad skill sets and professional networks. State-of-the-art lab facilities ensure you are trained in current and emerging sonographic techniques. Continuous accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs demonstrates the program's commitment to quality education. Before graduation, you are qualified to take national board registries through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and become a board-certified sonographer after completing the program.
