Types of appointments we offer
Meet with an advisor face to face! We meet with students on both the Health Campus and Allendale Campus
If you are sick on the day of your appointment we ask that you either switch to a phone/zoom appointment or call our office to cancel and reschedule.
Meet with an Advisor via Zoom! Prior to your appointment you will receive a Zoom link for your scheduled appointment.
It is important that you have reliable internet service for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Chat with an advisor over the phone! On the day of your appointment the advisor will call you at the phone number provided in the appointment registration process.
This format is ideal for quick questions!

All students in their first year at Grand Valley State University are required to meet with an academic advisor before registering for classes for the upcoming academic year. This includes both freshman and any transfer students in their first year at GVSU. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 helps protect the privacy of student records. Your FERPA rights begin when you enroll regardless of age; that is, when you have registered, paid, and classes have begun. See our FERPA Information page for more information.
Once you have declared your major, you will be assigned an academic advisor. Follow the steps below to find your advisor:
1. Log into MyBanner
2. Select the "Student" tab at the top of the page.
3. Select "Registration."
4. View "Major & Advisor Information."
