• 9 CreditsBrewing beer is a craft as well as a science. With more than 40 breweries in the area, the beer industry is expansive and well-established in West Michigan.
Grand Valley offers an Advanced Craft Brewing Undergraduate Badge program. This face-to-face program, consisting of nine credits, provides students with a solid foundation in beer brewing and product evaluation. It covers the scientific, historical, cultural, health, and societal aspects of brewing and consuming beer.
The curriculum includes courses such as Foundations in Brewing, Brewing Science, and Advanced Brewing. Students will develop skills in sensory analysis, brewing process proficiency, and beer design. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, ensuring students gain practical experience in brewing
Studying this program at GVSU offers several benefits, including access to experienced faculty and advanced facilities. The badge highlights marketable skills to potential employers and can be completed in a year, making it an efficient way to specialize in the growing field of craft brewing.
A digital badge, or badge, is a record of achievement that recognizes a student's completion of a coherent and meaningful academic experience. GVSU offers both credit and non-credit bearing badges as digital credentials. Credit-bearing badges include anywhere from 0.5 to 15 academic credits and may include additional noncredit criteria. Credit-bearing badges are also posted to the academic transcript.
