Transitions FAQ's

Transitions FAQs

All new transfer students are encouraged to attend Transitions.  Check you inbox for an invitation and to RSVP link.

Transitions coordinates our schedule with the International Center and international students are encouraged to participate in all components of the program.  The program includes experiences and information that will benefit all incoming GVSU students.

First year student living on campus will attend Transitions events with their living community.  Students who live off campus will be placed in a group during check-in.  Most of the events in 2022 are not held in small groups.

Students living on campus: No, registration is not required and there is no fee. However students will be expected to check-in with their Resident Assistant and attend events with their communities.

Students living off campus: Check your inbox for an RSVP to attend Transitions.  There is no fee to participate.

Students who live off campus (commuter students) will not need a parking permit for the Transitions program, however, please note that commuter students must park in designated commuter lots (Park in lots: C, G, H, K-west).  Refer to the student commuter parking regulations). Parking regulations are enforced when classes begin.

Refer to the general schedule. Several components of the program will be held in the Fieldhouse Arena.

We recommend to dress for the weather (it is usually hot in late August) and to wear comfortable shoes for walking around campus.  Casual clothes are fine and we encourage students to wear their favorite GVSU t-shirt.

Students who attend the Class Photo on Wednesday will be encouraged to wear the free tshirt they receive for the photo.

It is advised not to bring valuables including purses, backpacks, etc., especially to large group events (held in the Fieldhouse Arena and Lubber Stadium). Students are encouraged to travel light and leave personal belongings home, aside from a water bottle.  There will not be a designated area to leave belongings during the Transitions Program.

The workshop will be released to students in early August and will remain open through August.  Students can use their GVSU credentials to access the workshop.  The link will be posted here when available in August.

If you need disability accommodations to participate in Transitions, please contact [email protected]
