Transfer students are encouraged to attend the large group programs during Transitions that are held in the Fieldhouse Arena and are not placed in a small group unless requested in advance.

*Information below is based on the 2021 schedule; please check back for specific details in mid-June.

Transitions Welcome and Class Photo - Featuring National Speaker: Joe Martin in the Fieldhouse Arena (Allendale Campus).  Class photo immediately follows and students will walk to Lubbers Stadium as a group.

Swipe Right - Featuring National Speakers: Dorian Solot & Marshall Miller in the Fieldhouse Arena (Allendale campus).  This friendly, funny, and inclusive program covering: consent, sexual violence prevention, bystander intervention, and Title IX resources will engage students while offering smarter, healthier, and better-informed approaches to sexuality and healthy relationships.

Student Success Network Faculty Partner Session at the Kirkhof Lawn next to the Zumberge Pond (Allendale campus).  Meet up with your SSN faculty partner, learn more about how you can connect throughout the year, and then walk to Convocation together.

Convocation in the Fieldhouse Arena (Allendale campus)
Join GVSU's President, Philomena Mantella, for our Convocation celebration. Convocation is a time-honored tradition that symbolizes the beginning of the academic year.

Students will receive email communication from the Office of Student Life on August 22 to reveal their small group placement for Transitions and will get checked into the Transitions Program with their small group leader on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 24.

No, registration is not required and there is no fee. However students will be expected to check-in with Transitions Leaders in their small groups and at each large event. To be ready to check in, head to www.gvsu.edu/lakerlink, click the circle in the top right corner, and click on Event Pass. This is your QR code to check in at any and all GV events across campus. Take a screen shot or add the code to your wallet on your phone.

First year students who live off campus (commuter students) will not need a parking permit for the Transitions program, however, please note that commuter students must park in designated commuter lots (Park in lots: C, G, H, K-west).  Refer to the student commuter parking regulations). Parking regulations are enforced when classes begin.

Refer to the general schedule. Several components of the program will be held in the Fieldhouse Arena.

We recommend to dress for the weather (it is usually hot in late August) and to wear comfortable shoes for walking around campus.  Casual clothes are fine and we encourage students to wear their favorite GVSU t-shirt.

It is advised not to bring valuables including purses, backpacks, etc., especially to large group events (held in the Fieldhouse Arena and Lubber Stadium). Students are encouraged to travel light and leave personal belongings home, aside from a water bottle and writing utensil.  There will not be a designated area to leave belongings during the Transitions Program.

The workshop will be released to first year students in early August and will remain open through August.  Students can use their GVSU credentials to access the workshop.  The link will be posted here when available in August.
