Providing new students with valuable information and opportunities to connect with their community as they acclimate to life as a Laker!

Our Transitions Orientation program consists of online orientation modules, a virtual meeting, and a small group session prior to the start of classes.

Directions will be sent to students through their GVSU student email accounts.

First-year students are required to participate.

Next steps following your summer advising and registration session:

  • All first year students will receive the first online orientation module to complete and a link to sign up for a Connection Session the following week
  • This orientation module should be completed prior to participating in a Connection Session 
  • Module topics include:
    • GVSU Community Expectations
    • Lakers Together
    • 8 Dimensions of Wellness
    • Emotional and Mental Health
    • Alcohol and Other Drugs Education
    • Sexual Assault Prevention
    • Next Steps
  • Students will attend a Connection Session (via Zoom) with fellow new Lakers hosted by returning students
  • Sessions will be available throughout the week on multiple times and days
  • Students should have completed their first online Orientation Module prior to their session
  • Session topics include:
    • Building Community
    • Answering Questions About the Fall
    • Orientation Module #1 Follow-Up
  • Students will attend a small group session
    • Residential: Most in-person sessions occur from 1-4 p.m. the day after move-in; all residential students will receive an email from Housing and Residence Life to verify details for their small group session including room location.
    • Commuter & Online: Students will sign up for a session to attend; extended deadline to RSVP is Monday, August 24 at 11:59 p.m. Additional details will be shared via email on August 25.

Post-Transitions Feedback Survey
  • Students will receive an email to complete a feedback survey about their experience participating in Transitions Orientation

Transfer Students:

You will receive an email on Monday, August 31, to your GVSU email, to complete your Online Educational Modules! These modules will provide information about community expectations, wellness, campus life, getting involved, campus safety, and much more. Students are encouraged to complete the modules by Monday, September 21.
