Our Transitions Orientation program consists of online orientation modules, virtual, and small group sessions prior to the start of classes.

Students are provided with essential information and make connections to ensure your success as a Laker. 

Directions will be sent to students using their email accounts.

First-year students are required to participate.

Next steps following your summer advising and registration session:

  • Students will receive the first online orientation module to complete and a link to sign up for a Connection Session the following week
  • This orientation module should be completed prior to participating in a Connection Session the following week
  • Module topics include:
    • GVSU Community Expectations
    • Lakers Together
    • 8 Dimensions of Wellness
    • Emotional and Mental Health
    • Alcohol and Other Drugs Education
    • Sexual Assault Prevention
    • Next Steps
  • Students will attend a Connection Session (via Zoom) with fellow new Lakers hosted by returning students
  • Sessions will be available throughout the week on multiple times and days
  • Session topics include:
    • Building Community
    • Answering Questions About the Fall
    • Orientation Module Follow-Up

  • Students will attend a small group session
    • Residential Students: Your session occurs the day after you move in from 1-4 p.m.
    • Commuter & Online Students: You will receive separate information to sign up for your session
