The Teach-In Steering Committee oversees the planning and execution of the annual event. Each lead is responsible for coordinating their respective subcommittee efforts and reporting out to the Advisory Committee. This group meets monthly throughout the year.

Advisory Committee

The Teach-In Advisory Committee is a group of stakeholders from the university community, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. Serving on this committee entails attending monthly one-hour meetings from July-November.

The Advisory Committee's purpose is to:

  • Provide input on the progress of event-planning
  • Advise the Steering Committee on the wants and needs of respective campus groups
  • Ensure the quality of Teach-In sessions and plenaries
  • Serve to enhance the design of the overall Teach-In

Sub-Committees

The three Teach-In subcommittees collaboratively plan the event; the subcommittee meetings are coordinated by the leads, who also serve on the Teach-In steering team.  

Hospitality Sub-Committee

  • Members plan for the logistics on each day of the event, including arranging for host/moderators/volunteers and event wayfinding. This subcommittee also brainstorms ways to solidify constituent attendance.
    • Time commitment: Subcommittee members must attend biweekly meetings June-November and weekly in October; are expected to serve as a greeter, set up or tear down for at least one assignment during Teach-In; busiest time September/October/November

Marketing Sub-Committee

  • Members promote the event to the campus community; This includes but is not limited to: designing, publishing, and distributing printed and digital materials promoting the event including social media, website updates, email outreach, newsletter contributions, and communication with campus promotions divisions.
    • Time commitment: Subcommittee members must attend biweekly meetings June-November and weekly in October; are expected to serve on-site for footage capture for at least one session during Teach-In; busiest time September/October/November

  • Members coordinate the call for proposals, opening and closing plenary, reviewing proposal submissions, and organizing theme/track sessions.
    • Time commitment: Subcommittee members must attend bimonthly meetings; are expected to serve as a host/moderator for at least one session during Teach-In; busiest time October/November
