About

Dr. Imran Mazid is an assistant professor in the School of Communications at Grand Valley State University. He is an award-winning scholar who conducts theory-driven and communication-centered research that explores strategic political communication, social justice advocacy, and health disparities. He investigates political campaigns on social media, the role of gender in politics, and public diplomacy. Dr. Mazid is intrigued by the role of social media in social change; therefore, he explores advocacy strategies for inclusion and diversity. He is committed to unveiling disparities in public health through transformative social science research. Dr. Mazid published research papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals such as the International Journal of Communication, the International Journal of Strategic Communication, the Journal of Health Communication, South Asian Popular Culture, and Action in Teacher Education.

Dr. Mazid employs qualitative and quantitative methods to conduct research. His research involves empirical analysis of large data sets, primarily drawn from social media to examine strategic communication practices. More specifically, he has investigated the use of social media analytics for data mining, social media management, content planning, sentiment analysis, and campaign design. His research goal is to help organizations translate data-driven consumer insights into competitive intelligence to formulate strategic decisions.

In his free time, Dr. Mazid enjoys playing with his toddler son and cooking for friends and family.
