Food Truck Approval Process
Food Trucks are managed through a two-step process owned by GVSU Dining and Supported by Risk & Insurance Programs
Process 1: Catering & Dining
- Secure approval from GVSU Catering/ Laker Food Company Their website includes links to their Waiver process.
Process 2. Insurance
Step #1: Understand the insurance standards. All food trucks must be able to demonstrate common minimum insurance standards through a Certificate of Insurance. Those standards are:
- Commercial General Liability limits of $1M each occurrence & $2M aggregate
- Auto Liability with limits of $1M combined single limit.
- The Named Insured must match the name of the entity requesting approval.
- A sample Certificate is provided here for reference.
Step #2: Determine if your truck is already approved for insurance standards.
- The Currently Approved food truck list shows all of the trucks that are currently approved from an insurance process standpoint.
- If the truck that you'd like to use appears on the list, and their approval date has not yet expired, you only need to complete the Dining Approval process (described above). No additional action needed from Risk Management
Step #3: Next steps if the truck that you want to use does not appear on the currently approved food truck list, or if the expiration date noted will occur before your event.
- Send Certificate(s) of Insurance that meet the standards outlined above to [email protected] for review and approval. This sample Certificate shows what a document that meets the minimum standards will look like
- Allow 72 hours for first review. Timeliness of final approval depends on the accurateness of the Certificates being submitted.
