FH ARENA Emergency Procedure Plan
- The first responder should be certified in CPR and First Aid as established by the American Red Cross. The first responder should be a KTB Staff Member.
- First Aid Kit as well as AED Machine is located in the cabinet behind the KTB front desk. The cabinet is labeled “First Aid Kit/AED Machine”.
- Another AED machine is located on the turf level in between the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
- All KTB phone should be used to dial 9 to reach an outside line, and then dial 911. The phone in the GA Faculty/Ticket Office can also be used to call EMS.
- Phones for public use operate the same way by dialing “9” to reach an outside number.
- Located upstairs outside of GA Ticket Office and downstairs by the elevator.
- EMS should be directed to enter campus through the main entrance off M-45 (Lake Michigan Drive), which is called North Campus Drive. Turn right onto Center Drive and then turn left onto Laker Village Drive and the Turf Building will be on the right hand side past the tennis courts and sand volleyball courts.
- If the incident is on the main level, then EMS should park in Lot F and enter the KTB through the main level doors. A member of the emergency management team should be waiting for EMS at the main level doors overlooking Lot F.
- If the incident is on the field level, direct EMS to turn right on the north sidewalk of the KTB to the north doors.
- Fill out Incident/Accident report.
A non-emergency medical event is any situation that does not pose an immediate threat to the injured. When in doubt, treat it as an emergency situation.
- For cases such as minor bumps, bruises, and lacerations that pose no further threat, contact the KTB Student Manager on duty to provide first aid and assistance. The first responder should be certified in First Aid and CPR as established by the American Red Cross.
- All accidents/injuries that occur in the KTB that call for first aid require an Accident Report Form. These forms are located in the paper work drawer of the GA/Ticket Office. Forms can also be found on the L Drive under L:\ARF FRONT DESK\KTB\Front Desk Forms. Upon completion, the white copy is given to the KTB Manager. Time permitting; the form should be filled out immediately after the incident has been effectively handled. In all cases, the form must be submitted before departing after a shift.
- If injuries are not life threatening or serious, advise the individual to go to the nearest Medical Center. If there is doubt, begin the emergency procedure plan.
- First Aid Kits are available at the Front Desk.
- Ice is available in the KTB in the Concession Stand.
In the event of a fire, the Turf Building is monitored by an automatic detection system, supported by a “Pull Alarm” system. When triggered, a repeating horn signal will begin, with strobe-light signals in some sections of the building, and an indication of the problem on the control panel.
Initiate Emergency Announcements
EVACUATION ROUTES:
- Lower, Field Level: Evacuate the Locker rooms, Multi-purpose rooms, and Track to the practice football fields, according to the posted evacuation route map in your area or to Fieldhouse.
- Upper, Main Level: Evacuate the area to lot F according to the posted evacuation route map in your area.
- Front Desk: One desk worker will assist with evacuation after making calls according to the Information Procedure. However, evacuate your area if needed for safety.
RE-ENTRY PROCEDURE:
- Instruct facility users to stand away from the building, and do not re-enter until Public Safety or other emergency professionals have given the “All Clear” signal. In extreme weather, evacuees should be instructed to proceed to the Fieldhouse.
PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES:
- Handicap exit from the Upper, Main Level out the main doors, then head to Lot F or Lot E, to the Fieldhouse. Or there are doors behind the front desk on the North side of the building. Then, exit to the practice football fields. The handicap exits for the Lower Field Level are on the North side of the building, by the video board. Then, exit to the practice football fields. Also, there is an exit on the South side of the building by the training room. Then, exit to Lot F.
- In the event of severe weather, the professional staff or KTB Student Manager on duty will be in charge of listening for directions on the radio. The KTB Student Manager should switch his/her radio to channel 1 (facilities & public safety channel), and keep in contact with staff on another radio set to channel 3.
- Initiate Emergency Announcements
- If notified to take cover due to Tornado Warning, all activities must cease and everyone must evacuate to the Lower Field Level (preferred level to evacuate to first). The locker rooms are safer than other rooms in the building. We cannot force anyone to stay in the recommended location or guarantee their safety.
- Refer to the tornado procedure postings throughout the KTB.
- In the event of a power failure, there are automatic emergency auxiliary lights throughout the building.
- Certain areas such as the Track or Multi-purpose Rooms must cease all activities until power returns or the activity is deemed safe by the most senior on-duty supervisor.
- In the event of extended power failure, instruct users to remain calm and exit the facility. KTB Student Manager on duty will clear the building and lock up until power resumes.
- Planned outages will be scheduled on EMS and staff will notified beforehand.
- Call Campus Police at 1-3255 and Campus Utilities Building at 1-3258.
Building Closing Message
- Your attention please, the building will be closing shortly. Please gather your items and begin exiting the building. Thank you for visiting the Kelly Family Sports Center.
System Test Message
- Your attention please, this is a test of the emergency announcement system, this is only a test. In the event of an actual emergency, this system will be utilized to provide you with emergency information. This is only a test.
Tornado Warning
- Your attention please, the National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Ottawa County. Please proceed to the tornado shelter area located in the field level locker rooms.
Building All Clear
- Attention facility users, the building’s emergency condition has been cleared. You may return to your normal activities.
Fire Alarm Evacuation
- Your attention please, the fire alarm has been activated in the building. Please evacuate the building using the nearest exit.
Building Evacuation
- Your attention please, there is an emergency situation in the building. All occupants please evacuate now through the nearest exit.
