Student Bike Mechanic

Any students with a passion for empowering and inspiring the GVSU community through outdoor and adventure based opportunities (specifically, biking) should consider the student bike mechanic position. This part-time position focuses on meeting the bike maintenance and upkeep needs of our students through limited-service offerings. Students in this position will enjoy a mix of scheduled and flexible hours through regular weekly shifts, as-needed appointments, and periodic workshops/ events

Details

Duration: Semesterly

Commitment: Up to 10 hours/ week

Compensation:  Regular: Starts at 4A ;  Training: 1A 

Location: GVSU Allendale Campus, Bike Shop (Ravine Center)

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours for semester of employment or Fall semester if employed over Spring/ Summer (12 Credits if work study has been awarded)
  • Adult first aid, CPR and bloodborne pathogens certifications (training available upon hire)

Preferred

  • Experience in bike maintenance (formal or informal. Training provided as-needed)

Ideal applicants are hard-working, friendly, environmentally conscious, self-motivated, and good verbal communicators

Responsibilities

  • Hold weekly availability for scheduled maintenance appointments (60%)
  • Assist with the management of the bike impound inventory (15%)
  • Coordinate and facilitate related workshops and programming (10-15%)
  • Maintain a welcoming and inclusive maintenance area (5-10%)
    • clean space, friendly environment, stocked with tools, supplies, and parts. 
  • Attend all trainings and meetings (1-5%)
