On Friday, September 26, 2025, Grand Valley State University will host a hands-on reed-making event designed for middle and high school students, as well as community members and oboe enthusiasts of all levels. The workshop will be led by Dr. Marlen Vavrikova, Professor of Oboe at GVSU, and will offer expert instruction, tools, and tips in a supportive and collaborative environment. Whether you are new to reed-making or looking to refine your skills, you will gain practical experience and leave with reeds you have crafted yourself. Space is limited, and registration will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis.

Twenty Years, One Studio: GVSU Oboe Day 2026
GVSU Oboe Reunion & Celebration

Oboe Day 2026 marks a significant milestone: the 20th anniversary of Dr. Vavrikova’s tenure as Professor of Oboe at Grand Valley State University. This special event unites current students, alumni, future oboists, and friends of the program to celebrate two decades of musical excellence, mentorship, and community. Throughout the day, participants will reflect on the legacy of the GVSU oboe studio, honor the accomplishments of its alumni, and experience the collaborative spirit that has defined the studio. From rehearsals and exhibitions to the culminating showcase concert, Oboe Day 2026 will be a tribute to the GVSU Oboe program and the vibrant network of musicians who have shaped its past, present, and future.
