Jayma Tagliavia is a 2020 graduate from GVSU, where
she earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Bachelor
of Arts in Dance. During her time in school, Jayma chose a specialized
learning track in dance medicine. She was awarded the Doug and Linda
Woods Athletic Training Scholarship in 2019, and she took this
opportunity to study for a semester at the Harkness Center for Dance
Injuries in New York City. While there, she provided preventative and
rehabilitative manual services to professional dance companies (Dance
Theatre of Harlem, Complexions) and schools (SUNY Purchase
Conservatory of Dance, Hunter College). She also performed
dance-specific pre-participation examinations for Ballet Hispanico,
Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the SUNY Purchase CoD. Lastly, she
assisted in dance injury prevention and nutrition lectures at both
university and professional settings.
Currently, Jayma works as an
Athletic Trainer for the Hope College Dance Department, where she
works in conjunction with physicians, professors, and students to
prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries. Additionally, she
has taught at Lake Michigan Dance Academy for the past 10 years,
specializing in creative movement for children and introductory hip
hop classes.
