Fountain Street Church (a non-denominational church community in Grand Rapids, Michigan), is searching for an Operations Manager with a professional background in hospitality and events coordinating to help us pursue our core mission of practicing radical hospitality by sharing our campus with dozens of local justice, arts, education, and recovery organizations.

The "people's cathedral" of Grand Rapids makes our space available to individuals and groups who share our passion and values free of cost.  Help us grow by opening this place up to host creative, passionate, justice-seeking members of our community to facilitate their mission and vision.

We would love to see our historic 1400-seat sanctuary, chapel, dozens of classrooms, kitchen, and other gathering spaces utilized every day of the week for the benefit of our city - in keeping with the original vision of our builders.

Position Description
The Operations Manager oversees the church-wide calendar, coordinates campus scheduling, and serves as the primary contact for members, staff, and community groups using the building. In comparable event and venue roles, this kind of work is commonly framed around event operations, venue coordination, guest experience, and cross-functional logistics.

This role is both operational and relational. The Operations Manager maintains accurate scheduling in Planning Center Events, manages building access coordination, supports front office workflows, and ensures that events needing facilities, A/V/L, or childcare follow-up are clearly communicated to the appropriate staff partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the master campus calendar in Planning Center Events for worship, programs, meetings, weddings, memorials, partner events, and other approved uses.

  • Receive, review, and process event requests; confirm room assignments, timing, setup needs, and policy alignment.

  • Coordinate building access requests, including keys, PINs, and scheduled door access through managed systems.

  • Communicate clearly and hospitably with staff, members, and community partners about event logistics and next steps.

  • Follow up with the Director of Facilities, Director of A/V/L, Director of Education, and wedding coordinators so event-related support needs are confirmed.

  • Provide day-to-day oversight to front office staff and help maintain effective office workflows tied to scheduling, communications, and inquiry response.

  • Serve as a welcoming, professional relationship manager for recurring campus users and outside groups.

  • Coordinate with contractors and the Property Committee regarding building access, project scheduling, and work that may affect campus use.

  • Support orderly systems, documentation, forms, and procedures that improve calendar accuracy, communication, and hospitality.

  • Develop new opportunities for on-campus community groups to strengthen their networks and foster professional relationships.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Candidates with an educational background in events management and hospitality will be preferred.

  • Proven track record of growing organizations by facilitating hospitality and welcome, experience in similar settings preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a busy, multi-use environment.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills; hospitality, hotel, venue, or event-industry experience is especially relevant.

  • Experience coordinating calendars, events, building use, or venue logistics across multiple stakeholders.

  • Comfort learning and using scheduling and event-management systems; experience with Planning Center Events or similar platforms is helpful.

  • Ability to manage follow-through, maintain clear records, and communicate professionally across departments.

  • Ability to reflect Fountain Street Church’s values of hospitality, professionalism, and community engagement in daily work.
