Community-Based Learning within the College of Community and Public Service (CCPS)

We call ourselves an engaged College because we take the skills and talents of our faculty and staff and we work on projects in the community. We help to be a voice. We see ourselves as a college and a university, but we are part of the community and not separate from the community.  - Dean George Grant, Jr., College of Community and Public Service (CCPS)

The Hospitality and Tourism Management Program is proud to have earned the "Engaged Department" designation by the GVSU Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence in 2018, and was awarded a $5,000 grant to participate in the Engaged Department Initiative. Over an 18-month period, we have been incorporating curricular scaffolding of community-based learning, developing collaborative approaches to community partnerships, and working toward establishing a culture that supports and rewards community-based work.
