Job Summary

Ensures uninterrupted access to over two million dollars of over 300 licensed databases, 800,000 electronic books and 60,000 electronic journals by managing and troubleshooting the communications between the University and publishers and vendors.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Ensuring continual, consistent online access to digital content for the entire library system in an environment that is characterized by rapidly evolving technologies, less-than-stable digital content and publishers, and multiple protocols and standards.
  • Provides rapid and seamless access to the library’s electronic resources using an expanding suite of software
  • Responds quickly to reported interruption in access to electronic resources by ascertaining relevant information and taking appropriate action.  Interacts regularly with resources providers to resolve connectivity issues
  • Populates and maintains Article Linker (open URL protocol to find full-text in electronic databases), electronic resource management system (tracks contract details for journals, databases and electronic resource providers) and Summon search engine (maximizes results by searching a unified index of millions of resources through a single interface)
  • Coordinates large batch updates to catalog records to show electronic holdings
  • Assist library faculty with resource renewal process including interaction with vendors to acquire pricing information and statistical usage data.
  • Compiles usage statistics and performs overlap analysis to assist decision-makers in the purchases of electronic resources
  • Assists in configuring and branding newly acquired electronic resources by accessing and modifying multiple web interfaces
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and processes for insuring connectivity
  • Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Upon request investigates, recommends and implements next generation software to further enhance access
  • Builds and configures primary access list of electronic journals for University community
  • Creates and applies statistical modeling to ensure connections to journals, electronic books, databases and streaming music and video services.
  • Assist in the supervision of student employees and the coordination of their work
  • Responsible for learning other functions of the KARMS team, and backing up teammates in case of absence
  • May assist User Experience team by staffing the service point a few hours per week
  • Assist with energy issues by monitoring and reducing the use of lights, power and water as appropriate
  • Inform and explain to students and staff the energy compliance measures including light dimming and under floor air distribution systems

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex information from technical and procedural manuals
  • Possess strong skills with computer interfaces 
  • High school graduate. 
  • Minimum of two years of experience and/or training in the area of film/video, photographs, and/or audio production.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully operate office equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully operate and explain the operation of film, audio, video and photographic equipment as demonstrated through work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully recognize equipment malfunctions and make minor equipment repairs.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully perform record keeping and scheduling duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Electronic resources management experience
  • Familiarity and experience with an integrated library system (Innovative preferred)
  • Supervisory experience.

Supervision Received:

Receives minimal supervision from a designated supervisor.  Much of the work is self-initiated.  Person is expected to function with considerable independence and apply appropriate policies and procedures within the assigned area of responsibility. .

Supervision Exercised:

Hire, train, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
