Job Summary
Maintains and operates audio, video, broadcast and satellite equipment for television and radio. Maintains television and radio transmitters, satellite, microwave and fiber optic system. Maintains computer interconnection and networks.
Essential Functions
- Designs, maintains and operates audio, video, computer networks, STL and transmitter equipment for all WGVU radio and television facilities
- Maintains studios, control rooms, master control and transmitter facilities to ensure reliable, continuous operation
- Maintains and operates satellite communication facility and equipment.
- Install and maintain audio and video over IP equipment
- Knowledge of Client-Server technology, server operating systems, network security and large- scale data storage
- Knowledge of specialized test equipment including network, spectrum and protocol analyzers.
- Configure and maintain media encoding and transcoding equipment.
- Designs video, audio, and transmitter control systems and circuits. (SNMP)
- Coordinates installation and repair of equipment and systems
- Makes recommendations on new equipment purchases.
- Maintains knowledge of FCC rules, SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) and ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
- Maintains maintenance logs and other required records.
- Document workflows, operating procedures, best practices, wiring lists and drawings.
- Coordinate equipment needs and setup of all remote broadcasts and productions
- May train and supervise student employees.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Coordinate activities with clients and vendors to ensure timely completion of projects.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate supplemented by two years of technical training, appropriate degree or certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of broadcast equipment operation and maintenance experience and/or additional relevant technical training.
- Knowledge and experience working with FCC rules, SMPTE and ANSI standards.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully design systems and circuits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Supervisory experience.
- Extensive knowledge of radio and television transmission systems and satellite communication equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of computer operating systems, applications and computer networks. Experience with remote desktop applications and VPN required
- Network certification preferred (Cisco, CompTIA Network+).
Supervision Received
Receives general instruction from a designated supervisor but is generally expected to work independently.
Supervision Exercised
Hire, train, supervise, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to other PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
