The Region 12 Michigan Science Olympiad returns to the Valley Campus on March 21, and organizers are seeking GVSU student volunteers to help.

This year, 57 teams of middle school and high school students from Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon counties will participate. Eight middle school teams and 10 high school teams will qualify for the state tournament.

Participants will test their knowledge and skills in build events, lab events and test events. A wide range of scientific disciplines is represented; here are some new events this year: Water Quality, Engineering CAD, Heredity, Remote Sensing, Rocks and Minerals, Circuit Lab, Hovercraft, Machines, Boomilever and Designer Genes.

Faculty and staff members are encouraged to offer to GVSU students this volunteer opportunity to help at the event. Those interested can learn more and sign up on the Science Olympiad volunteer website.
