Biography
Dr. Geoff Twardokus is an Assistant Professor in the College of Computing. His research focuses on security in cyber-physical systems, with particular emphasis on quantum-resistant security protocols and practical applications of post-quantum cryptography for constrained, safety-critical systems such as connected vehicles and intelligent transportation systems. His work also includes developing open-source wireless testbeds and digital twins for evaluating emerging security threats and defenses in realistic environments. He has published in leading cybersecurity and communications venues, including the Network and Distributed System Security (NDSS) Symposium, the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, and IEEE INFOCOM. He has also contributed to successful NSF-, NSA-, and DoD-funded proposals.
Dr. Twardokus’s teaching interests include cybersecurity, cryptography, wireless networking, and quantum computing. In addition to his academic expertise, he brings industry experience from BAE Systems, where he worked on flight control systems for military and commercial aircraft, and Modern Hire, where he helped drive greenfield projects in large language model (LLM) engineering. His combined background in research, teaching, and industry positions him to support GVSU’s growth in cybersecurity, quantum computing, and applied computing while creating opportunities for students to participate in hands-on research involving emerging technologies and real-world systems.
Dr. Twardokus has research cited by NIST, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA). Contributor to successful NSF- and NSA-funded proposals. Featured in TechTarget, WROC-TV News 8, IEEE Innovation at Work, and RIT News.
