Biography
Dr. Jonathan Engelsma is a professor of computer science in the Department of Computer Science at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), where he serves as Graduate Program Director for Software Engineering, Director of the Applied Computing Institute (ACI). He teaches courses in distributed systems, mobile computing, and web development. Dr. Engelsma’s research interests focus on mobile computing and web and distributed systems.
Under his leadership, ACI provides applied computing services and collaborative opportunities in areas such as artificial intelligence, health informatics, data science, and high-performance computing.
Prior to his academic career, he spent nearly two decades in the tech industry, holding multiple patents and publishing widely in mobile computing. Outside of computing, Jonathan enjoys beekeeping and fishing with his children, who often out fish him.
