Women's Rugby Club

Line Out

The Grand Valley State Women's Rugby Club Program plays Division II collegiate rugby in the United States. The Lakers play in National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) 15s play in the fall, and 7s competition in the spring, culminating with the Collegiate Rugby Championship. The team regularly competes in regional and national events, representing GVSU with pride and sportsmanship. Home matches are held on Field #1 of the South Complex in Allendale, and all GVSU students are welcome to join the club. Club Information & Plans

Rugby is a continuous game during which two teams with either 15 or 7 players each carry, pass, and kick the ball, with the object of scoring in the other team's try-zone (end-zone). It is a highly physical and very intense game, with play stopping only in the event of a penalty. Players are divided on the field as forwards (ball protectors) and backs (ball carriers), both responsible for offensive and defensive skills as a whole team unit. The rugby community is based around respect and camaraderie for inner-team and opponents alike. It's customary for the host team to provide food for everyone and an opportunity for both teams to socialize.

Offering membership to all, including those with no prior experience. Come check us out and see for yourself what we are all about!
